Yves Rocher | Plant-Based Nail Polishes

Spring is "just" around the corner and the sun is making its welcoming appearance every now and then. I get all jittery when the days get longer and milder. Maybe it's due to my being from the south - very south - and yearning for long-lost sun rays and blue skies that are often only reserved during mid summer in Austria. The beginning of spring to me means getting my nails all geared up and ready for those cheerful shades that scream happiness!

Nail polishes are known to be filled, and I mean filled with chemicals. It's quite tricky to get a purely plant-based nail polish, and those that I could get my hands on either ended up containing a row of nasties or just didn't live up to my expectations: runny formulation, powdery finish or just had a "tipex" feel to it.

I was first introduced to Yves Rocher when an aquaintance of mine was boasting one of their delicious scents - which I am still a big fan of. Finally I ended up purchasing one of their scents and a cute little bottle of nail polish, just to test. And I must say, I rather liked ... BOTH! Now when purchasing plant-based nail polishes, I lookout for the "3-free" or "Toxic Trio": nail polishes that are free from formaldehyde (preservative and linked to lung and nasal cancers), toluene (dissolves or combines other chemicals, and linked to birth defects) and dibutyl phtylate (a plasticizer and linked to cancer). These chemical are classified as carcinogens, i.e. cancer causing agents. Other responsible brands that I have come across are:

  • Zoya

  • Sante

  • Aquarella

I am looking forward to testing the lot!

My Verdict:

  • great coverage

  • non-potent odour

  • glides on well

  • dries quickly

  • perfect finish

Which natural based nail polishes have proven to be YOUR go-to? Leave a comment below. I'd love to know :)
